(KNSI) – The ALS Association will have four Minnesota events, including in St. Cloud, this Saturday to raise money to fund research to find a cure for the disease. The walk starts at 10:00 a.m. with check-in at 8:30 in Whitney Park.

ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, attacks nerve cells limiting basic functions like chewing, walking, and talking. Eventually, it becomes impossible to breathe. Over 80 years after it forced the Hall of Famer to retire from the New York Yankees, what causes ALS is still a mystery.

A link to register for the Walk To Defeat ALS is here. There is no charge to participate, but you are encouraged to form teams and raise money together. Other events this Saturday are in Mankato, Rochester, and the Twin Cities. Every cent raised goes to help people in the Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota region.
