(KNSI) – Sometimes the only way to make a house a home is to build it yourself.

The Central Minnesota Builders Association Tour of Homes is the next two weekends, showing off the latest in appliances and features installed by area contractors, while also sparking the desire to work with a builder on new home construction.

There are nearly 20 different residences this year taking part. Most are open to in-person walkthroughs but some can only be viewed virtually, says CMBA Executive Director Wanda Schroeder.

“We have 16 live homes on the tour this year and three virtual tours. Folks can go on out to our CMBA tour app and download that onto their mobile device and be able to take a look at some of the homes, and it will also provide map directions of how to get from one home to the next.”

Schroeder says construction firms have been fighting just to keep up with demand the past couple of years, which means most of the residences on display are already sold. That will require guests to take some precautions.

“We do ask that they be respectful of the homes. Some of them may have owners. The goal is remove your shoes at the door, be respectful, no food and drinks inside, and they keep the little kids home.”

One walkthrough is located in St. Augusta, available only from the 16th through the 18th. The rest are in St. Cloud, Sartell, and Sauk Rapids.
