College Football
Saint John’s University is now the number two ranked squad in Division III. They defeated University of Wisconsin – River Falls 37-34 Saturday, with two late Falcon touchdowns and a two-point conversion slashing what looked to be a comfortable margin.
Alex Larson secured a 20-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter from quarterback Aaron Syverson, one of two he threw. Troy Feddema scored on the ground twice in the second half, once from five yards out and the other from three.
College Soccer
The Saint Cloud State University Women’s Varsity Soccer Team was shutout this weekend over two matches in North Dakota. On Friday afternoon, Mary won 2-0. The Marauders scored in the 60th and 84th minutes to pick up the victory. SCSU only gave up an early goal to Minot State on Sunday, but it was enough for the Beavers who won 1-0.
The men’s soccer team dropped two contests as well. Playing at Wisconsin-Parkside on Friday, Vukota Mastilovic and Chief Williams netted goals for the Huskies but the Rangers took the contest, 5-2. The Huskies traveled to Marquette on Sunday, where they managed only one shot on net. SCSU fell to Northern Michigan, 3-0.
College Volleyball
The Saint Cloud State University Women’s Volleyball Team improved to 10-0 on the season with two more straight set wins. On Friday they down the Mary Marauders 25-9, 25-12, 25-15. Kenzie Foley had 23 kills with Sam Zimmerman adding 12. Emma Berran scored 41 set assists and Linsey Rachel patrolled the back line, gathering 11 digs.
The match against Minot State was closer at 25-14, 25-10, 25-19. Phebie Rossi led the team with 11 kills. Kenzie Foley notched 13 digs.
SCSU has dropped only one set the entire season.
St. Cloud Technical and Community College defeated Western Technical College Friday night 3-1 (25-18, 21-25, 25-18, 25-17). It was a balanced offensive attack. Karissa Lintgen led the team in kills with 10, but she was one of five players to secure at least eight in the match. Kailee Barnett led the squad with 16 digs.
High School Volleyball
Sartell won a weekend tournament at Mound Westonka on Saturday, going 4-0. They knocked off the host team (2-1), Robbinsdale Cooper (2-0), NYA Central (2-1), and Buffalo (2-1).
