Group Honored for Teamwork in Saving Man’s Life

(KNSI) — Benton County first responders were honored on September 6th for their teamwork in saving the life of a man who was seriously injured in a tractor accident.

According to a post on the sheriff’s department’s Twitter page, on November 10th, 2021, Alan Frerich was operating the tractor at his property in Maywood Township when he fell from the machine and suffered a severe laceration on his leg. Frerich made a basic tourniquet from items found around him, called 911, and called his neighbor, Greg Ransom. Ransom and several first responders arrived on the scene to begin caring for Frerich.

Upon his arrival, Benton County Sheriff’s Deputy Cody Eisenschenk replaced Frerich’s improvised tourniquet with a tourniquet from his medical supplies, significantly slowing the blood loss from Frerich’s leg. Subsequent arriving first responders continued to care for Frerich and rushed him to the hospital for further treatment.

The post says, “the prompt and professional response from every link in the first responder chain preserved Mr. Frerich’s well-being from what was a serious and life-threatening wound. Our sincere thanks goes out to all those who came together as a team to preserve Mr. Frerich’s life.”
