(KNSI) – The Sauk Rapids Volunteer Fire Department is welcoming a chart-topping country musician to the area on Saturday as part of a fundraising dance.
Chief Jason Fleming says the money brought in helps with activities and equipment purchases that don’t fit neatly within the core budget itself, like community outreach, the Jaws of Life, and recruiting efforts. Fleming says there will be an opening act and headliner.
“Gates open at 5:00 and the Canyon Cowboys start at 6:00. Frankie Ballard will be after that.”
The concert is at Rollie’s Rednecks and Longnecks on the live music stage. The venue is located at 940 35th Ave NE, Sauk Rapids, MN 56379. Tickets are on sale at the bar. Frankie Ballard has sold nearly half a million albums in his career.
The Sauk Rapids Volunteer Fire Department protects the city and a handful of surrounding townships.
“We are part of the City of Sauk Rapids, no different than public works or a PD [police department] is. We do have a budget through there. We also are the fire department for five surrounding townships; Haven, Minden, parts of Watab, parts of Mayhew Lake, and Sauk Rapids Townships.”
The department does a steak fry, among other fundraising efforts at various times of the year.
