High School Volleyball (Tuesday, September 6th)

Sartell 3, Alexandria 0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-14): The Sabres handed Alex its first loss of the season in straight sets. Sartell Head Coach Riley Marod says it was a great game for her team and she expressed how proud she was. It was a complete effort. Abby Haus led Sartell with nine kills. She was set up mostly by Grace Schulte, who had 15 assists. On the backline, Avery Templin secured 22 digs and contributed offensively with three aces. As a team, the Sabres had seven total blocks.

Willmar 3, ROCORI 1 (25-14, 21-25, 22-25, 18-25): The Spartans got of to a great start, breezing to a first set win. The Cardinals took off later in the match, sweeping the rest of the way for the victory. The West Central Tribune reports Allie Rosendahl led the Cardinals with five aces. Sydney Schnichels had 21 kills for Willmar, the only player with more than ten. No stats were available for ROCORI.

Brainerd 3, Sauk Rapids-Rice 0 (18-25, 17-25, 17-25): The Storm fell in straight sets to the Warriors. For Brainerd, Karley Dunham and Kate Stadum both had eight kills. Stadum also had six digs and two blocks while Dunham contributed five digs, two blocks, and two aces. Aden Yost had 16 assists and five digs. Iyana Pickar notched seven kills and four aces for Brainerd.

Grand Rapids 3, St. Cloud Apollo 0 (10-25, 5-25, 5-25)
Annandale 3, Cathedral 0 (27-25, 25-22, 25-23)

Boys’ Soccer

Cathedral 10, Melrose 0: Jacob Oliver scored a hat trick for the Crusaders.

Minnewaska 4, St. John’s Prep 3 (OT): Cole Butenhoff-Phillips (23′), Evan Danielson (26′), and Eli Perry (27′) all scored in quick succession for SJP in the first half. Minnewaska’s Blake Nelson won it in overtime.

Willmar 7, Sauk Rapids-Rice 0: The Cardinals pulled away from the Storm with five goals in the second half. SR-R is still looking for its first win of the season. The Storm thought they had opened up the scoring with a goal off a free kick early in the first half. It was called off due to a player being offsides.

Sartell-St. Stephen 3, Buffalo 2: The Sabres improve to 4-0. They have already secured three non-conference wins in addition to their 1-0-0 mark in the Central Lakes.

Girls Soccer

Tech 1, Brainerd 1: The Tigers led at halftime, but Brainerd’s Lilly DeRosier tied the match with 21:13 left. The Warriors had a great chance in overtime. Emma Shelfo got a shot off from inside the penalty box with just ten seconds left, but Tech goaltender Abby Wright stood tall to keep it even.

Sauk Rapids-Rice 2, Willmar 0: Gabrielle Fernholz scored both goals for the Storm, roughly six minutes apart in the second half.

Cathedral 6, Melrose 0: Ava Schmidt led the Crusaders in scoring with a goal and 2 assists.

College Volleyball (Wednesday, September 7th)

SCTCC 3, Ridgewater College 1 (25-21, 25-12, 22-25, 25-16): The Cyclones improved to 5-2 Wednesday night behind a balanced offensive attack. Emily Kemp slammed 14 kills, while Karissa Lintgen and Paige Rupp added 10 each. Makayla Balder set up 45 assists for the front line. Kylie Winter and Kailee Barnett both had at least 20 digs.
