(KNSI) – Two people have been charged with several felonies after stealing from a kayaker in late August.
Manny Forge was attempting to ride the full length of the Mississippi River, from the headwaters of Lake Itasca to New Orleans, Louisiana, and the Gulf of Mexico.
When he stopped near Clearwater for the night on August 19th, two people took Forge’s tent, sleeping bag, water purifier, and solar panel chargers. The stolen property was traced to a pawn shop in the St. Cloud area and police say they used surveillance video to identify Ciera Veches and Justin Longfield as the individuals trying to sell it.
Both have been charged into the Wright County Jail on multiple felony counts for theft, possession of stolen property, and drug offenses.
In a video posted to TikTok, Forge says the equipment was worth about $2,000. Former Sauk Rapids mayor Mark Campbell helped Forge replace the gear with the help of employees and shoppers at an area Scheel’s store, according to an article from KSTP-TV.
