BCA App Makes It Easy To Report School Threats

(KNSI) – 400,000 Minnesotans have downloaded the ‘See It, Say It, Send It’ app but the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension wants to see adoption rates continue to climb.

Launched in 2021, Superintendent Drew Evans explains the purpose of the new reporting system.

“This app was designed to provide information to us here at the BCA that we’ll then share that with local law enforcement when people encounter a threat, in particular to our schools across Minnesota.”

He says it is simple to download and use. The app comes with the ability to submit text and pictures. Every threat sent in is taken seriously, but they are vetted by BCA employees before being passed along to county and local law enforcement.

In addition to guarding schools, Evans says it has helped protect churches, mosques, and synagogues. It can also help at the individual level.

“It’s also important to note that sometimes these threats, or information shared, could be a cry for help. And we also want to make sure that we get those people that may not be an active threat, but that there might be a cry for help — get them the connection that they need.”

The app is available in Google Play or through Apple’s App Store and Evans says it is easy to use. He says the program is like a hub in a wheel, helping to connect local authorities to threats and people who may be suicidal as each report works its way through the vetting process.
