(KNSI) – Sartell is proposing a 17% increase in spending next year. The city set its preliminary levy at $9.2 million on Monday.

Sartell Finance Director Rob Voshell says the increase captures the city’s growth.

“All our levies are also increasing by 17%. Our tax capacity is also increasing by 17%, resulting in a 0% tax rate change from 2022 to 2023, which actually means the average residential homeowner will not see an increase in their city’s share of their property taxes unless their market value increases. ”

Voshell talked about how some of the increase will be spent.

“Included in the 2023 levy is an additional police officer, additional part-time wages for our fire department for fire marshal succession planning, $430,000 more for street maintenance and inflationary increases up to 6% across most categories.”

The final levy will be set on December 12th.
