(KNSI) – Normally Tuesday features the best deal for moviegoers. That won’t be the case this week.
National Cinema Day has been slated for Saturday across the country and Marcus Theatres is taking part. For anyone visiting their Waite Park facility, tickets are just three dollars. The deal applies to every movie on every size screen, including premium formats.
Regular-size fountain drinks will be the same, with hot dogs available for only $2.50. Even the hard stuff is on sale. Sam Adams beers are five dollars.
National Cinema Day is a brand new initiative to try and get people back to the movies after crowds dwindled during the pandemic. Audiences were slow to return until earlier this summer. Minions and Top Gun were the first two films that don’t target teenagers to outperform expectations.
Even still, theaters face themselves with uneven release schedules. Films featuring popular DC Comics superheroes, among others, are still stuck in post-production as overworked animation and visual effects crews try to get caught up following the ramp up in film production.
Several months have seen only one major release in 2022, including August. Bullet Train is the lone film with an opening weekend of over $25 million this month. The Invitation topped the box office from Friday to Sunday with a scant $7 million.
