College Volleyball

The St. Cloud State Huskies Women’s Volleyball Team opened up its season at Halenbeck Hall on Friday and Saturday, breezing through the St. Cloud State Invitational. The ninth-ranked hosts went 4-0, dropping a lone set in its last matchup of the weekend against Ashland University.

In the 25-22, 25-17, 22-25, 25-17 win against the Eagles, several players had excellent stat lines. Kenzie Foley played perhaps the best overall game. She accumulated 14 kills, five service aces, two blocks, and 18 digs.

Other standouts included Phebie Rossi with 18 kills and eight blocks. Emma Berran tallied 51 assists.

Ashland and Oklahoma Baptist both entered the season receiving votes in the AVCA Coaches Poll.

St. Cloud Technical and Community College had its squad playing in an invitational as well at the College of Dupage. The Cyclones went 2-2 on the weekend. They notched wins against Harper College and Joliet Junior College in their book-end matches, both three sets to one.

In contests two and three, SCTCC fell to Dupage and Madison College respectively, 3-2 and 3-0.

College Soccer

St. Cloud State’s Women’s Soccer Team dropped to 0-2 on the season after a nonconference loss Saturday at Huskies Stadium. They squared off with Michigan Tech of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The match was scoreless until the 54th minute. Tech’s Haley Ruiter netted the deciding goal thanks to an assist from Taylor Noble. Alivia Sanom extended the lead for the other Huskies in the 70th minute. The final was 2-0.

St. Cloud State managed just three shots on net.

Professional Golf

It’s shaping up to be an exciting finish at the Cragun’s CRMC Championship. The first-ever PGA Tour Canada tournament on American soil sees five players within four shots of the lead. Jake Knapp shot a 61 on Saturday to ascend to the top of the leaderboard after 54 holes.

Knapp’s third round was punctuated by an eagle on the 16th. He is a combined 12-under par on the courses final three holes so far this weekend. American Trent Phillips will join Knapp in the last pairing on Sunday. Phillips is 19-under, one shot back.

Conner Godsey and Alexander Herrmann are at 18-under. Rounding out the rest of the top of the leaderboard is Ryan Gerard (-17) and Will Bateman (-16).

Admission is free for anyone heading to Brainerd for the final round.
