Public Hearing Set For 9/12 For St. Cloud Budget

(KNSI) – St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis joined KNSI’s Bob Hughes on Tuesday morning to discuss the budgeting process.

A preliminary draft was presented to the city council in early August and now residents have a chance to weigh in. Kleis says his staff has been very careful to prioritize public safety and infrastructure without getting too loose with the purse strings.

Kleis says, “If you go back to 2012 and adjust for inflation, we’re actually spending less in this 2023 budget than we were in 2012, so 11 years…”

A public hearing on the budget is set for September 12th. Kleis says the council seems happy with the draft so far, but further input will be taken from everyone as staff works towards a final draft.

Even after the public hearing, there are opportunities for residents to learn more about St. Cloud’s municipal government and offer an opinion on the 2023 budget.

Kleis says, “We can still make changes all the way until December. We’re having St. Cloud 101, an opportunity for folks to actually see everything the city does. That’s going to be on the 8th of October.”

The event will be held at City Hall.
