(KNSI) – A man will serve jail time for using his pickup truck to ram a family’s vehicle in an apparent road rage incident on Christmas Day.
Kevin Desmet-Groseclose from Apple Valley, formally Little Falls, pleaded guilty to four counts of 2nd-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. He was sentenced on Monday by Judge Sarah Hennesy to six months in jail with credit for 77 days. The 34-year-old man had a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence stayed, meaning he won’t serve prison time unless he violates the terms of probation.
Police were called around 1:00 a.m. on December 25th to a section of Interstate 94 near Avon. A witness stated their SUV was headed east on I-94 at around 70 miles per hour when a truck came up behind them. The pickup flashed its lights and pulled up in the lane next to them.
The driver, identified as Desmet-Groseclose, was waving his arms at them. The SUV sped up to 90 miles per hour to get away from the pickup. The pickup caught up to their vehicle and crashed into the driver’s side of the SUV. The SUV stopped on the highway.
The pickup then turned around and drove at them head-on, but the SUV was able to avoid the truck and kept going. After the SUV stopped for help, Desmet-Groseclose came up to the SUV’s window and hit it with a pop can, screaming about his daughters.
The SUV’s occupants said they were terrified throughout the ordeal, especially the children in the vehicle.
Police say, at the scene, Desmet-Groseclose seemed manic. He was rambling about his daughters being missing and how he believed them to be kidnapped. Officers spoke to him after he calmed down and he stated he did not remember much from the incident. Desmet-Groseclose said he did not know why he targeted the SUV.
