(KNSI) – The St. Cloud Park and Recreation Department wants residents to look up to the night sky.
With the help of the SCSU Planetarium staff, the first ever Stars and S’mores event will be on October 8th at 7:30. Professor Rachel Humphrey talks about some of the landmarks you’ll be searching for.
“We get a chance to see a lot of our favorite Autumn constellations. So, at that time of night, it might be possible to see Orion and a couple of others like the Taurus. We also might be able to look at the moon.”
Humphrey says there will be some pretty cool telescopes on hand to help with the stargazing.
“We’re gonna have some [telescopes] that some of our students and some of our researchers use here at Saint Cloud State. Again, people could go out and purchase them, but those would be a little bit expensive.”
Registration is only available for 35 people. Humphrey says if this year’s inaugural event at Wilson Park is a success it could potentially grow significantly going forward. The cost is $5 per person and it is open to all ages. A link to register is here.
