(KNSI) – Governor Tim Walz says he is moving for immediate extradition of the two suspects in the Mall of America shots fired incident.
In a press release, he says his office is working with Attorney General Keith Ellison and Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman to ensure that Shamar Lark and alleged accomplice Rashad May are returned from the Chicago area.
Walz says his office issues around 100 interstate warrants per year. An argument inside the Nike store on August 4th escalated into gunfire. No one was hurt.
Freeman says, “I will ensure that they will be held accountable for their actions, which endangered dozens if not hundreds of people at the Mall of America. These brazen and reckless public shootings are unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”
State law enforcement agencies have had a beefed up presence in the Twin Cities since July in a push to improve public safety.
