(KNSI) – The weekend’s rain was enough to noticeably improve the dry conditions in central Minnesota.
Moderate drought fell in Sherburne County from 73 percent of total land area to barely 50 percent. It disappeared entirely in Stearns County. Light rain is expected tonight and tomorrow, but that is the only likely precipitation in the near term. The National Weather Service is forecasting a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Tuesday and Wednesday next week.
Similar improvements were seen across the state. The percentage of land area in Minnesota experiencing severe drought fell to under three percent, concentrated around the Twin Cities and a separate portion near Redwood Falls.
Even though a vast majority of the state is okay, areas suffering are the most populated. Over 3.1 million people are estimated to live in a drought-stricken area.
