(KNSI) – A man has been sentenced for killing a man and dumping his body near the St. Cloud Regional Airport.
Ricco D. Tyson pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for shooting 25-year-old Tyler Ecklund in the head. On Thursday, Sherburne County Judge Walter Kaminsky sentenced the 44-year-old man to 20 years in prison. As part of a plea deal made in June, two counts of manslaughter were dismissed.
On November 14th, 2020, the sheriff’s office was called about a dead body found near 55th Avenue and 10th Street Southeast. The body was later identified as Ecklund. Police say during a search of a home in southeast St. Cloud, they found blood in a detached garage, and Tyson became a suspect.
Tyson was arrested in December 2020. He told investigators he got into an argument with Ecklund and hit him in the head three times with the gun. He said as he struck him, the gun fired. Tyson told officials he dumped the body and threw the gun into the Mississippi River in Minneapolis.
