(KNSI) – The River’s Edge Convention Center is hosting the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Minnesota summer benefit concert tonight. The show begins at 5:30.
It signifies a return to form for the organization’s largest fundraiser, which was held outdoors in 2021 due to the pandemic. Normalcy in the face of recent adversity plays into this year’s theme, says President and CEO Mary Swingle.
“With everything we’ve been through with COVID in the last couple of years and bringing our fundraiser back to the River’s Edge…last year we had it at a different venue but we’re back where we have always been at the River’s Edge, so we thought it seemed fitting to do the Elton John [theme] ‘We’re Still Standing.’”
Anthony Shore and his Elton John tribute band are the highlight of ‘Rocketman’, but Swingle says there are lots of good eats, plus much more.
“We have food vendors that come in so when you’re at the event there is beer and wine sampling and food available, and that’s all part of your ticket. Then we have a really extensive silent auction that goes on, as well.”
Proceeds go to benefit several of the organization’s children’s programs.
