(KNSI) — An investigation is underway after an on-duty security guard allegedly shot and killed a man he said was trying to stab a woman.
It happened Monday night at an apartment complex in Brooklyn Park. Just before 11:45, officers said they responded to the building and found a 62-year-old man who had been shot. He was rushed to the hospital, where he died.
A post on the police department’s social media page says preliminary information shows the security officer heard a woman screaming for help. He responded and found a man armed with a knife trying to stab a woman. He told the man to drop the knife, but he failed to comply, and the security officer fired his gun, hitting the man. Investigators say they believe the man and woman had a domestic relationship.
According to police, the security officer is employed by a security company and was working at the complex. They say he is fully cooperating with the investigation.
