(KNSI) – Local governments have the opportunity to secure new funding for state highways through the Corridors of Commerce program.

$250 million in total funding was made available during the 2021 legislative session to improve trunklines. The money is a combination of bonds and budgeted funds.

Each county or city government is allowed to submit one project recommendation to the Minnesota Department of Transportation by November 30th. The agency will announce its selections in May of next year. MnDOT says each project must develop additional system capacity, improve movement for freight, or reduce barriers to commerce.

The current road work on Highway 23 from Richmond to New London is a Corridors of Commerce project. The construction should finish next summer.
