(KNSI) – The Monarch Joint Venture and Minnesota Native Landscapes are teaming up to give you front-row tickets to one of nature’s most awe-inspiring shows.
Soon, Monarch butterflies will begin their migration from Canada and the northern United States to Mexico for the winter. It turns out a native plant grown by MNL in nearby Foley is a magnet for the majestic orange and black creatures. Monarch Joint Venture Communications Coordinator Stacy Carlson explains.
“They grow fields of one specific flower, the Meadow Blazing Star. The unique thing about this fair is that at this time of year, in August, there’s the possibility of seeing hundreds of Monarch butterflies feeding on those blooming [Meadow] Blazing Stars.”
Carlson talks about how powerful the sight is in person, for the average person and experts alike.
“For all of us working in environmental conservation or people who care about habitat restoration and thriving natural ecosystems, we also have to fuel up on inspiration to get us through the hard work that we go through trying to make a difference for, whether it’s pollinators or watersheds or thriving communities.”
A link to purchase tickets is here. The fair will be held on Sunday, August 21st, from noon to 6:00 p.m.
