(KNSI) – The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office and the St. Cloud Police Department have been encouraged to complete a joint application for the Edward Byrne Memorial JAG Grant.

If successful, the organizations would share evenly $33,822 to help purchase a variety of items. The Sheriff’s Office would use their portion to buy eight ballistic shields. St. Cloud Police intend to acquire a Mobile PRO Systems Sentry 6000 Camera network.

The Sentry 6000 can be mounted on the exterior of a building or utility poles. It uses an infrared sensor to notice nearby movement. The camera would allow St. Cloud Police employees to remotely access video footage from their email or by phone to determine if there is suspicious activity that requires a law enforcement response.

The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant provides federal funding for projects and equipment needs at the state and local levels.
