(KNSI) — The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating after an inmate was found unresponsive in his cell Thursday morning.

The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office says at 8:30, jail staff discovered 28-year-old Brady Schmidt lifeless in his cell and immediately began life-saving measures. Litchfield Rescue and Mayo Ambulance were also called to the jail to assist. Schmidt was rushed to Meeker Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting an autopsy and will release the cause and manner of his death. A press release from the sheriff’s office says there were no signs of foul play.

Schmidt, of Dassel, was awaiting a court appearance on DUI charges.

Authorities say the investigation is active and ongoing, and no further information will be released.
