(KNSI) – Anglers will again be able to target walleye on Lake Mille Lacs starting Saturday.

The second catch-and-release walleye fishing season is from July 16th through August 31st. The change follows a walleye fishing closure put in place by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources on July 1st. The two-week ban was to reduce hooking mortality.

Fishing hours on Mille Lacs are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. for all species. There is an exception for muskie and northern pike anglers. Those using artificial lures or sucker minnows longer than 8 inches are not subject to the night closure.

After the catch-and-release season, a one walleye limit is set to resume on September 1st and continue through November 30th. All anglers can fish from 6 a.m. to midnight during the late walleye harvest.
