(KNSI) – Governor Tim Walz is releasing more details about the crime crackdown underway in the Twin Cities.

Last weekend alone, the Minnesota State Patrol made 1,500 traffic stops in Minneapolis to curb drag racing. Drugs, a lack of a driver’s license, and driving without insurance were only some of the additional charges that came from the effort. It is in response to wild videos on the Fourth of July showing street racing and illegal fireworks being shot off downtown.

Now we know the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has been busy as well in recent months. Since spring, the agency has been active in helping to look into murder and assault cases and tracking down wanted individuals, which is frequently turning into bigger discoveries. It has opened 98 investigations, recovered 128 illegal firearms, made 200 felony arrests, and seized 4,187 fentanyl pills.

Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Superintendent Drew Evans says, “We’re working in collaboration with our local and federal partners and the U.S. Attorney’s Office to make our communities safer by identifying, arresting, and holding these individuals accountable.”
