(KNSI) – Area residents will have a chance this weekend to interact with first responders to show gratitude for the tough jobs they do, while also learning more about possible jobs in public safety.
Co-Organizer Stefanie Hurt says the idea behind Saturday’s Central Minnesota First Responders Appreciation event is a simple one. It dates back about a half-decade.
“My boss had gone on a ride along about six years ago and came back and he was basically disgusted at the way individuals treated fire, EMS, and law enforcement. That’s where the birthplace of it started, in wanting to make a change and showing those professionals support.”
The event is open to first responders across 10 counties and Hurt says they will be on hand doing demonstrations.
“Minnesota National Guard has been amazing. They are going to be flying in and dropping in a Blackhawk that will be on static display for this event. There will also be Lifelink there. There’s going to be a state patrol helicopter that will also be landing in.”
She hopes the interactions will help educate the public on what their job entails and also act as a recruiting tool for volunteer organizations, like most of the area’s fire departments.
Hurt says there will be food vendors and donations are greatly appreciated. The event runs from noon to 6:00 p.m. Proceeds go to benefit the Greater Saint Cloud Public Safety Foundation.
