(KNSI) — Stormberg Foods is recalling a list of dog treats over possible salmonella contamination.
The company says chicken treats with brand names Beg & Barker, Billo’s Best Friend, and Green Coast Pets could potentially sicken animals. All affected products have printed expiration dates between June 6th and June 23rd.
The company says the treats were sold nationwide but primarily shipped to warehouses in Minnesota and three other states.
Salmonella can affect pets eating the products. There is a risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to them.
Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain. Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for symptoms including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever.
The Food and Drug Administration says if your pet has consumed the recalled products and has these symptoms, to contact your veterinarian.
Consumers who have purchased these products and/or have pets who have become ill are urged to notify stormbergship@gmail.com immediately with all product information for return or proper disposal. Consumers with questions may contact the customer services department via (919) 947-6011, Monday – Saturday 2:00 a.m. -8:00 p.m. Central or email 24 hours a day.
