(KNSI) – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Minnesota is introducing their new staff member.
Emmitt Edwards spent the last ten years as a college athletic recruiter. He recently began working for the St. Cloud area nonprofit and talked about the opportunity to try and attract mentors to his new organization.
“I’ve been in St Cloud for about 10 years now and I was looking for ways to give back and I thought, what a perfect opportunity with something like this. I can be my extroverted self, go talk to people and change the community for the better.”
Edwards will be responsible for inspiring people to take that leap and become “big” volunteers.
“I think a lot of people get worried about time commitment and their confidence in themselves of being a mentor. When realistically, we just need someone to be there for the kids. The kids don’t know whether you’re confident or not. They’re just excited to have somebody there. I really think we just need to convince folks to believe in themselves and believe in the cause.”
He says so far, he enjoys working with the team already clicking on all cylinders. BBBS of Central Minnesota was recently honored with three national awards.
