(KNSI) – Only one Northwoods League team has six representatives set to go to Wisconsin Rapids for the All-Star Game on July 19th.
As their 27-8 overall record would indicate, the St. Cloud Rox have a lot to celebrate so far this season, and that includes some amazing individual performances.
The Rox all-stars will help make up the Great Plains team. St. Cloud’s record is the second-best in the entire league behind Wisconsin Rapids, who are an eyepopping 31-6 in the Great Lakes West.
The Rox contingent consists of three position players. Outfielder John Nett plays college ball at Saint Cloud State University. The Wisconsin native is hitting over .360, one of the best marks in the Northwoods League. He has made the most of his time on the base paths, scoring 44 runs.
Third baseman Trevor Austin is batting a cool .352 himself and is second on the team with 28 RBI’s. Trevor Condon is a staple in the middle of Saint Cloud’s order. His 36 RBI’s lead the Great Plains division.
Three pitchers are also on the all-star squad. Starters Nathan Culley, who plays at Minnesota State-Mankato, and Hunter Day both sport earned run averages below 2.50. ERA measures how many runs a pitcher gives up per nine innings of work where an error is not a contributing factor.
Closer Chase Grillo has been perfect when called on to end the game. The Washington State hurler has yet to allow a run in 10 appearances, yielding only three hits and three walks while on the bump. Grillo has struck out 19.
