(KNSI) — Authorities are reminding parents about the importance of watching their children’s social media accounts after Big Lake police responded to a disturbing call.

The Big Lake Police Department says they were contacted by the frightened parents of an 11-year-old girl after an 18-year-old man showed up on their doorstep with flowers for their child.

Officers learned the girl had been communicating with the man for over a year using Snapchat while she was pretending to be 17. The 18-year-old reportedly took a Greyhound bus from Chicago to Big Lake to meet her after locating her through her Snapchat account. Investigators say at no time did the girl tell the man that she was 11. According to police, the girl had not given him her address.

The reckless Romeo was sent back to Chicago.
