(KNSI) — Applications will be taken starting Thursday, July 7th, for a post-9/11 veteran service bonus.
The Minnesota legislature unanimously passed a veteran’s omnibus bill this past session, including nearly $25 million for service bonuses to post-9/11 era veterans and Gold Star Families in 2023. Bonus money is payable to eligible veterans who served from September 11th, 2001, to August 30th, 2021.
There are three tiers for the bonus.
The first is for $600 for veterans or current service members who served honorably in federal service during the qualifying period and were not awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, or Afghanistan Campaign Medal.
The second is $1,200 if the Veteran or currently serving service member served honorably in federal service during the qualifying period and was awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, or Afghanistan Campaign Medal.
The third is $2,000 for the beneficiary of a veteran who died as a result of a service-connect injury, disease, or condition while in federal service during the qualifying period and was awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, or Afghanistan Campaign Medal.
Applicants will be asked to review and answer a pre-screening question to determine eligibility.
