(KNSI) – The National Weather Service Twin Cities office says it was a wet and warm June for Central Minnesota. The Chanhassen site actively monitors Eau Clair, Minneapolis/St. Paul, and St. Cloud. All three were hotter than normal last month.

Both Minneapolis/St. Paul and St. Cloud ended the month 3.3 degrees above normal. The mean temperature in the Granite City came out to 69.3 degrees. Most of the excess heat was felt in the afternoon.

The average high temperature in St. Cloud equaled 81.6 degrees, which is 4.4 degrees above normal. St. Cloud had two record highs, 95 degrees Fahrenheit on the 14th and 101 degrees on June 20th. Eau Claire was less than one degree above the norm in June.

Our region bucked the trend last month, with wetter than average conditions. Forecasters point to the over three inches received on June 24th as the main cause of the discrepancy. St. Cloud got 5.44 inches in total for June compared to just 1.13 inches for Minneapolis/St. Paul. The extra precipitation comes after heavy rains dominated in the springtime.
