(KNSI) – The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office Recreation Division is putting on two Watercraft Safety and Operator Permit classes in August. Both will last roughly five hours, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The course on the 3rd is at the Bug-Bee Hive Resort on Lake Koronis. The second session is on the 17th at the Pelican Lake Ballroom.
The classes have a hard cap of 20 students each, so early registration is encouraged. Children between 12 and 17 years old are eligible to enroll.
The course will have roughly four hours of instruction, followed by training, a written test, and then an operating session supervised by sheriff deputies. Because students will be in control of a boat on open water, they must attend class with proper shoes and a life jacket.
Pen and paper for the class will be provided. The Stearns County Chain O’Lakes Association is reserving the locations and catering lunch for each course.
