(KNSI) – A Wright County grower has been named Minnesota’s 2022 Farm Family of the Year.
The University of Minnesota Extension has recognized Gene and Mary Jo Lambert of Lambert Farms in Chatham Township, west of Buffalo. The family has been farming for 33 years. They raise 200 dairy cows and grow a 1,000-acre corn and soybean rotation along with three of their four children.
The family is involved in the Wright County Dairy Association and Wright County 4-H. Gene and Mary Jo also help out during the Wright-Carver Breakfast on the Farm, and you can also find them at the milk booth during the Wright County Fair.
A local farmer nominated the Lambert family.
The Lamberts farm was first purchased in 1956 by Gene’s parents. The couple moved to Buffalo after selling their Howard Lake farm. Gene and a brother started cropping the land in the spring of 1980 and started a dairy operation later that year.
