(KNSI) — The 39-year-old Wright County man who held police at bay in an armed standoff for 44 hours has been charged.

Police were called to the St. Michael home of Brandon Gardas at 12:37 a.m. Tuesday, June 22nd, for an armed man fighting with a woman. Police say Gardas fired several rounds at police during the ordeal, which ended at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 23rd, when officers stormed the home to take him into custody.

A Wright County judge has charged Gardas with first-degree attempted murder of a peace officer, second-degree assault, first-degree criminal damage to property, terroristic threats, felon in possession of a firearm/ammunition, and second and fifth-degree controlled substance.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says an armed confrontation took place when police made entry into his house and police shot Gardas. He was taken to the hospital for treatment and was awake and alert, per the BCA.
