(KNSI) – An Isanti man was killed after being trampled by his horse Sunday at an event at St. Cloud’s Municipal Athletic Complex.
The 44-year-old was leading a team of Clydesdale draft horses and a carriage across the parking lot just before 2:30 p.m. He intended to offer rides for families in attendance. Sunday was Princess Day hosted by the St. Cloud Rox Baseball Club at Joe Faber Field.
The man was using a lead to guide the animals when he lost control of them. One of the horses ran over top of him and they dragged the carriage onto the golf course at the north end of the parking lot, only stopping when it became hooked on a tree.
A relative was able to get the horses into the trailer without incident. There was only one person in the carriage at the time of the accident. The man’s five-year-old boy was not hurt.
After being transported to St. Cloud Hospital by Mayo Ambulance, the man died of his injuries.
