(KNSI) – Waite Park’s Ledge Amphitheatre has picked up another recognition.

The League of Minnesota Cities held its annual conference in Duluth late last week, handing out its Cities of Excellence Awards. Municipalities are sorted by size, with Waite Park being selected in the 5,000 to 20,000 residents category.

The League of Minnesota Cities says its awards are judged on five factors. A project must satisfy at least one of the following criteria:

– Improved the quality of a city service;
– Developed an effective or innovative way to solve an old or common problem;
– Modified a program from another community or organization to fit the city’s need;
– Found a way to save the city money while achieving the same or better results;
– Creatively involved city staff in decision-making.

The League says Waite Park’s Ledge is “a beautiful 5,000-seat open-air outdoor amphitheater.” It says between 60,000 and 80,000 people are expected to attend shows there each year and the overall economic benefit is $8-10 million annually to the region.
