(KNSI) — The Renville County Sheriff’s Office says they are investigating two separate deaths on the Minnesota River on Sunday.

Just before 3:00, a 911 call came in from someone saying they found what they believed to be a body tangled in a log jam on the river between Franklin and Morton. Renville County, the Redwood County Sheriff’s Office, and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources responded to the scene and pulled the body of an adult male from the water. The Midwest Medical Examiner will release the cause and manner of death and the person’s identification.

Less than three hours later, at 5:23 p.m., another 911 call came in for a person drowning several miles upstream near Vicksburg County Park just south of Renville.

Witnesses told first responders a young man was swimming without a lifejacket when he began to struggle in the water and went under. Searchers found the body of a young adult male at about 7:40. He was taken to the CentraCare Redwood Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Names are being withheld pending identification and family notification.
