(KNSI) – St. Cloud Technical & Community College is launching a new two-year theatre program this fall with the help of a local theatre group.
The program is a partnership between SCTCC and Great River Educational Arts Theatre (GREAT). Officials say it’s the first time a college and a community theatre have teamed up in Minnesota.
According to a press release, the Technical Theatre Practicum Program provides students with a hands-on, real-world learning experience. This includes learning to make costumes, lighting, sound, and stage management.
Graduates would be qualified to work at concert arenas, convention centers, amusement parks, cruise lines, hotels/casinos, motion picture studios, and theatres. Students could transfer into any four-year degree program in the Minnesota State system with their AA degree.
The program will be run by Kendra Norton Dando, GREAT’s Education Director, and Dr. Hillary Vermillion of SCTCC.
Enrollment for the Technical Theatre Practicum Program is now open.
St. Cloud State University had a theatre program but it was canceled in the last couple of years.
