(KNSI) – It is the annual Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Take a Kid Fishing weekend, meaning adults don’t need a fishing license if they have someone under 16 with them.
Minnesota DNR Volunteer Program Coordinator Benji Kohn is in charge of the program.
“It’s just a great way to get kids outside. It’s really an excuse to get out and go fishing with kids. And that’s all there is to it. That’s what we want to promote.”
He says teaching a kid to fish gives them experience in an activity they can do for years to come.
“It’s a lifelong sport and it helps if you learn it young. And make it a habit to get out there and enjoy your weekends.”
Take a Kid Fishing Weekend goes from Friday through Sunday. Anyone under 15 doesn’t need a fishing license at any time of the year.
If you want to learn to fish or need to brush up on some angling skills, check out the DNR’s website.
