(KNSI) – The Sauk Rapids-Rice Storm were left thunderstruck following a 5-0 loss to Willmar Saturday. It is the team’s second postseason defeat, ending the 2022 campaign.

In consecutive games, the opposing pitcher twirled a gem against the Green and Gold. Cardinals starter Ian Koosman went the distance, picking up the shutout victory. Koosman gave up just three hits and walked two, and he hit a batter.

Sauk Rapids lost to Alexandria Thursday, 2-1. Alexandria used a complete game from JD Hennen to best the Storm then.

Saturday’s game was tied at zero until the bottom of the third inning. A two-out ground rule double by Willmar leftfielder Brandt Sunder plated second baseman Jason Malmgren.

It was Malgren’s turn to knock in a couple of runs the following inning. With the bases loaded and one out, he singled to left field. Koosman was one of the players who scored. Willmar would push across two more in the fifth and rode the arm of their starter for the rest of the contest.

ROCORI was also in action against Little Falls. The sixth-seeded Flyers sprung the upset in a low-scoring game. They knocked ROCORI from the 8AAA brackets by a final of 2-1.

Sartell is the only team left from the Saint Cloud area still playing. They are 2-0 in 8AAAA action. Their next contest is Tuesday at St. Michael-Albertville.
