(KNSI) – The needs of the Saint Cloud Police Department has School Resource Officers changing their summer vacation plans. Sergeant Greg Klinefelter oversees the group and says they will be on patrol more between now and August, meaning less time for activities.

Klinefelter says the first year of the Cops Fore Kids Program, which teaches area children about the game of golf, was a huge success in 2021. It will be taking a one-year hiatus.

“For this summer, we aren’t doing the Cops Fore Kids, but we will pick it up again next summer. Hopefully, next summer allows us to do that and our plan would be to pick it up and run with it again,” Klinefelter says.

The Saint Cloud Youth Leadership Academy is being shut down as well, plus a collaborative effort with a local Christian group. “We partner with the Youth For Christ people to put on a one-day event at the skate park because that’s kind of a group of kids that we don’t a lot of times have interaction with.”

The Community Engagement Division will still be fully staffed and helping to put on the Police Activities League, plus a host of events at the COP House.
