(KNSI) — The defense team for Gregory Ulrich will begin presenting its case to the jury Thursday.

The prosecution wrapped up its case Wednesday with tearful testimony from the older sister of Lindsay Overbay. The 37-year-old Overbay was a wife and mother of two who lived in Maple Lake. She was shot to death in the attack on the Allina Crossroads Buffalo Clinic on February 9th, 2021.

Sara Lein spoke about her sister, who she called her best friend, who lit up the room, had a “unique” laugh, and “didn’t have a mean bone in her body.”

Ulrich reportedly looked down through most of Lien’s testimony. Tuesday, he kept his head covered with his hand resting on a courtroom table. One by one, the survivors recounted their experiences that day. One of them was shot six times and still has a bullet lodged in her pelvis.

Assistant Hennepin County Medical Examiner Amanda Spencer also testified Wednesday about the fatal shot that ended Overbay’s life. She explained Overbay was shot in the back with the bullet severing her spinal cord and piercing a major vein and her liver before exiting through her abdomen.

Ulrich was allegedly upset about his care at the clinic and was angry he couldn’t get pain meds. He is charged with first-degree murder for Overbay’s death, four counts of first-degree attempted murder for the four other victims, and other weapons violations.

The jury is expected to begin deliberations before the end of the day Friday.
