(KNSI) – The second season of a free summer concert series in Sauk Rapids starts Thursday.

Rock the Riverside at Riverside Nights is a weekly music festival along the banks of the Mississippi River at The Clearing in Sauk Rapids.

“There’s a variety of different kinds of music, but really, it’s that rock and roll live music experience. Certainly in the future, we can have other types of genres and music but this summer music series that’s happening is Rock The Riverside,” said city administrator Ross Olson.

The concert series includes 14 shows each Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. until September 1st. Olson says the first year went fantastic.

“You really hope the public likes it. Not only those that live in town but, live in the region because, they’re going to bring not only their families over to Sauk Rapids, they’re going to bring their pocketbook too. And the hope is not only to provide that experience along the river but also to help downtown Sauk Rapids and bring people over so they can explore Sauk Rapids.”

Some changes to this year include more food trucks and a larger variety of food, a more permanent location for drink service, and an upgraded stage.

If the parking lot at the park is full, there is overflow parking at Coborn’s in Sauk Rapids. Officials say they hope to grow the event every year.
