(KNSI) — Two adults and two kids were seriously hurt in three separate ATV crashes in Cass County over the Memorial Day weekend.
The first happened Saturday morning just after 10:00 a.m. when a 15-year-old from Little Canada lost control of the ATV he was driving and drove off the road and into a grove of trees in rural Boy River Township. The teen was seriously injured and airlifted to a hospital in the Twin Cities. Officials say he was wearing a helmet, but speed appears to be a factor.
The other two happened moments apart on Sunday.
The first was at 6:05 p.m. in rural Hackensack. A 42-year-old woman from Shakopee was driving an ATV with a three-year-old passenger when she suddenly accelerated and crashed into a tree. The ATV bounced off of other trees in the yard where they were driving, and both the woman and the child were tossed off the machine. They were treated on scene before being airlifted to Twin Cities area hospitals.
The second happened six minutes later in rural Backus. A 56-year-old man from Sleepy Eye lost control of his ATV and rolled it into a ditch, which was partially filled with water. The man was seriously injured and airlifted to a hospital in Fargo.
The conditions of the victims were not released.
