(KNSI) — Workers and patients at the Allina Crossroads Clinic in Buffalo the day a man walked in and began shooting shared their stories in a Wright County courtroom Wednesday.
A nurse practitioner sobbed as she told the jury about how she lay behind a toilet in a locked bathroom on February 9th, 2021, as Gregory Ulrich tried to coax her out of hiding, saying she knew she would die and never see her family again, fearing Ulrich was coming back with a bigger gun.
Others told of where they were when the shooting started. A patient there for a regular checkup heard the noises and said it slowly began to sink in that what he was hearing was gunfire. He poked his head out of the door of his exam room and saw 37-year-old Lindsay Overbay lying on the ground. He said he turned her over and saw she had been shot in the abdomen, and “she didn’t look good.” Overbay died in the attack.
Another witness testified she dragged a victim into an exam room and used her sweater as a tourniquet to try and stop the bleeding from the gunshot wound to the person’s arm. She said she tried to comfort the woman who was begging for help, saying she didn’t want to die.
Three other people were also shot in the attack.
Ulrich is charged with one count of first-degree murder, four counts of attempted first-degree murder, one count of felony use of an explosive device, and a felon in possession of a firearm.
Testimony continues Thursday.
