(KNSI) – Stearns County wants to hear from more residents on the potential extension of the local option transportation sales tax.
The next session is Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Belgrade City Hall.
Stearns County officials are weighing several options. They include extending the sales tax for another five years, increase the tax from .25% to .50%, let the tax sunset on December 31st and cut the Highway Department’s tax levy by $1.2 million.
The tax has been in place since 2018. Stearns county says its used the money to replace a bridge, upgrade four major intersections, resurface more than 77 miles of roads and reconstruct an additional 7.8 miles of road.
These sessions are a chance for county residents to hear about the sales tax options, give input on whether it should be extended and tell commissioners how the money should be spent.
If you can’t make it to one of the sessions but would like to give your opinion, contact the Stearns County Highway Department at (320) 255-6180, or send an email at highway@co.stearns.mn.us. Information can also be found on the Stearns County website.
