(KNSI) – The Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office said goodbye to one of its favorite employees. After nearly six years of service, K9 officer Riggs started his retirement on Wednesday. The German shepherd joined the force in 2016.

Riggs was partnered with handler Sgt. Ryan Sturm. The pair and the Sturm family were greeted by staff members of the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office as Riggs left work for the final time on Tuesday. Riggs will live out his days with Sgt. Sturm and his family.

Sheriff Joel Brott said, “Here’s to hoping he lives a long and comfortable life after serving the citizens of Sherburne County.”

The sheriff’s office has certified a K9 to replace Riggs.
