(KNSI) — CentraCare is holding a ceremonial flag raising Thursday to commemorate Memorial Day.

Tim Johnson is the Emergency Preparedness Program Coordinator at CentraCare, but he is also the Vice Chair of CentraCare’s Veterans Employee Resource Group.

Johnson says the group has been around since 2018 and aims to connect CentraCare’s veterans and serve the community, such as hosting the flag raising ceremony, but it’s not about the veterans. Johnson says, “We survived, and we see a duty in remembering those who were lost. Connecting with other veterans can be a really enjoyable time, but Memorial Day is really about those who can’t be here to share those moments with us.”

The ceremony is set for 8:00 a.m. Thursday, May 26th, at the flagpole in front of CentraCare St. Cloud Hospital. Hosted by the employee resource group members, members of the general public are invited to attend. Johnson says it will be a short but solemn occasion with remarks from CentraCare employees who have served, including Dr. George Morris, who is also a veteran.

Other CentraCare employees who are veterans will serve as Colorguard for the ceremony to honor the bravery and sacrifices of those who died while serving in the U.S. military.
