(KNSI) – Democratic Governor Tim Walz appeared on Wednesday’s Ox in the Afternoon program. The show was guest hosted by Republican Representatives Tim O’Driscoll and Kurt Daudt. Walz had nice things to say about the house minority leader and how he handled himself during the budget negotiations. Walz said many will look at what didn’t get done, but he says there are some things to be proud of from the last legislative session.
“I’m kind of focusing on the things that we did well and I want to thank both of you, especially leader Daudt around the UI [unemployement insurance] trust fund. [We] did a lot of good work to make sure we replenished that, held our businesses harmless. We got the frontline workers, we got a vets bill, and we got an ag bill,” Walz said.
The governor is still hoping for a special session to be convened to pass some of the framework that was originally agreed to by both sides. He laid out his priorities for if lawmakers come back to Saint Paul.
“At a minimum, we need to try to figure out how to get money back to Minnesotans, at a time when they could really use it. I think we can’t leave federal money on the table on transportation. I think we should tackle this long-term child care issue.”
Walz also mentioned funding for special education.
